Worth The Wait

By Elder Marcus Steury

14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Psalm 27: 14 (ESV)

Have you waited on something for hours, days, or maybe even weeks, and decided it was worth the wait? Many of us don’t like to wait – we want what we want, and we want it now. Sometimes, we have no choice but to wait. One example of this for me is waiting on my taxidermy to return from Africa. It’s sort of the culmination of my once in a lifetime trip that I was blessed with. I want my taxidermy here, as soon as possible, but I have to wait until it arrives – there’s nothing that can be done to expedite the arrival.

As a child, do you remember waiting with eager anticipation for Christmas Day to arrive so that you could open a gift? I remember! I also remember pleading with my parents to open said gift(s) early! If I waited until Christmas would it be worth the wait? (Children, if you’re reading this – its worth the wait!)

Life is full of times where we should wait on God, but too often we don’t wait. We take matters into our hands and do things our way. Have you ever done this? Some examples of this in our lives could be waiting on God’s timing or answer regarding a job, a relationship, education decisions – the list goes on and on, really. How did this situation turn out for you, when you didn’t seek God and didn’t wait on Him? Think about situations where you did seek God first, and you waited on Him. I am confident that it was far better, and I am sure that it always will be. Always. Brothers and sisters, wait on the Lord – its always worth the wait!
